It is theoretically possible to condition the
subconscious mind to act for healing the body
by “brainwashing” the conscious mind.
However, while treating a patient, the therapist
does not have enough time and opportunity to
use the methodology of prolonged motivation
for transforming the mindset of the patient. In
such cases, the therapist may use the method
of affirmations for sedating the outer conscious
mind of the patient and then interface with his
subconscious mind for healing.
In this method, the patient is asked to be seated comfortably in front of the therapist and directed to relax the body. If the patient has become very frail due to sickness, let him/her lie flat on the bed with the head raised a little. Ask the patient to straighten his body and relax it as much as possible. Restraining the body from any movement let it lie on the bed totally immobile like deadwood. Ask the patient to vacate the mind as well of the myriad chains of thoughts. Let the patient look at you (the therapist) with half-closed eyes and imagine that in an immense void of space, only your head is seen. Within a short time, the patient will begin to feel drowsy. If the patient desires, he/she may close the eyes, but even with eyes kept shut, only the head of the therapist should remain on the canvas of the mind. In this way, within five to ten minutes, in the state of drowsiness, the external mind of the patient will become tranquil and fall into sedation. It does not matter if the patient does not feel sleepy. Relaxation of the body to maximum possible extent would also serve the purpose. When the patient thus becomes totally relaxed, a mantra is used for communicating with the subconscious mind of the patient.
(In the context of Prana therapy, this mantra is an affirmation spoken by the therapist. It is a command, directing the subconscious mind of the patient to work for healing. The acceptance of the command makes the subconscious mind direct the body to act for healing.)
A little practice and advance preparation is required for enunciation of the mantra. The therapist should clearly remember the script of the mantra word by word so that he/she does not waver or pause while speaking it during the treatment. The entire mantra should be enunciated slowly, clearly and firmly - giving emphasis on each word. It should be spoken in continuity from beginning to end. Any faltering, deviation from the text or harshness in voice would not create the desired impression on the mind of the patient. If pronounced with feelings of love, cheerfulness, conviction and firmness, the mantra will become extraordinarily effective. While speaking the mantra, in the beginning the tone is kept extremely low, lest it startles the patient. Later the pitch could be raised a little. After becoming familiar with the above aspects of pronouncing mantra, bring your mouth within a foot of the right ear of the patient and speak the following affirmation:
AFFIRMATION
You have become fully relaxed. You are feeling peaceful and happy.
On being relaxed, all muscles of your body are resting.
Your trustful mind is faithfully following the directions being given by me. The words being spoken are going to act on your receptive body.
As seeds sown in a fertile field sprout making it appear full of vitality, these commands will act on the organs of your body and make you hale and hearty. Your digestive system is becoming stronger....stronger....stronger.
Now, at this very moment, it is beginning to function properly.
(Pause)
The blood in your body has become full of vitality. Warming up with great energy, it is now vigorously circulating in your veins, nerves and arteries, curing each cell of your body and making it active.
(Pause)
Now I am transmitting energy to your tired organs and giving these new health, strength, capability and vitality.
You are immediately going to feel improvement, progress and peace.
The good wishes of happiness and recovery which I am introducing in your body are going to remove all your suffering.
Keep on thinking again and again about this bliss, comfort, peace, pleasure, health and beauty; since the environment all around you has been filled with these things.
Keeping in view religious sensitivity of the patient, end this affirmation by sweetly pronouncing “O-o-o-mmm Aanandam”. On pronouncing these words, paranormal frequencies of sound are produced. These sound waves have a miraculous effect on the biological rhythms of organs in the body.
Note:
1. The affirmation is required to be repeated a number of times. Generally it would be sufficient to pronounce it three times.
2. The therapist may use the aforementioned words or compose some other affirmation having a similar concept. The words being used in the affirmation should be fully comprehensible to the patient. If required, a suitable translation of the above affirmation, with little or more modification, may be used. Simply speaking “Your disease, pain and suffering will vanish” will also serve the purpose. These words would also create an image of wellness on the subconscious mind of the patient.
3. Remember to use only those words which have a curative effect.
Keep sitting beside the patient, till he/she regains the normal state of consciousness. When the patient returns to the fully awakened state from the relaxation of drowsiness, soothingly stroke his/her head with your hand with a smile and pat it gently.
Give repeated assurances by speaking such sentences: “Now you are looking fine. Don’t you feel more peaceful than before?”
The abovementioned procedure or some similar method can be used for reforming the mindset of the patient.
If feeling oppressed because of some guilt- consciousness; on account of reaction of some bad habit or depressed because of recollections of past mishaps, the patient may be encouraged to perform some act of virtue like giving of alms. It would relieve the stress. However, if the patient is temperamentally a miser, and the thought of losing money in this way is likely to have an adverse effect on his peace of mind, the suggested act of virtue could be less expensive, while appearing beneficial, for a large number of living beings. For instance, placing a fistful of sugar or flour near the dwellings of ants, feeding monkeys with nuts, or fish with grains of food, would also have the desired effect on the psyche of the patient. Depending on the emotional state and state of disease many other techniques for reforming the mindset of patient can be developed.
